County Livestock show

This past week clan Daniel has been at our county livestock show as Bub has prepared to show his steer. Sissy made the sale at San Antonio so she had nothing to show. The Mrs has taken to this livestock showing thing like a pig to slop so she is already for next years show steers which we should have in a couple of weeks. The Mrs. says she always wanted to be involved in FFA in high school but for whatever reason never did. She is getting her education now though.
In every aspect of animal husbandry. I feel quite confident that this was a staged pic. The Mrs. asked me the other day if this was how I saw us with the kids and showing animals? (I did this through high school) I told her it was except I always thought it would be me doing all that she is doing. Unfortunately work gets in the way and she is an eager learner.

The day of the show is a hectic day with lots of hurry up and wait. Bub is involved in all aspects of the preparation.

His steer has been to several shows plus regular washings at home, so this is old hat.

I sometimes think Bub does get a little frustrated at Mom and dad's "suggestions" on best washing practices.

As I said there is a lot of hurry up and wait. Bub got there at 8:00am and his 1st time through the arena was 7:00pm.

Plenty of time for catching up on homework or sleep.

Here Bub prepares to enter the arena for his 1st of 3 shows. General breed in weight class, breed in county and showmanship.

He has done this several times now and is getting pretty good at it.

Unfortunately, he didn't have much luck with his steer and did not make the sale. That's not what he is upset about though. He's upset because his steer stepped on his foot and did not get off for quite sometime.

Sister and Sissy showed up after school. Sissy ran around with all of her show string friends while Sister played in the...uhmm...well...Sister had a good time as also.

No one takes this too hard. It's just one mans judgement. Bub has a buyer and will make a small profit. Enough to get him ready for his next years steer.

  1. As always I enjoyed each and every picture and comment. But I do have one comment for Elijah...three girls on a fence at a time, it must be great being 11 years old.
