The aunt cometh

OK, I messed up. Post actually starts below but since your here , and already reading, lets just start here. Certifiably insane people dancing (if that's what you want to call it) in my living room.
Now the original beginning;

OK, remember how I said that I had been very busy and unable to post on the blog site, well this is a catch-up post. The Mrs. sister visited us from Colorado for a little over a week several weeks ago. We will refer to her as the Aunt since she is the only Aunt my kids will ever have. The Mrs. and the Aunt. (see how this works.)

They all went to a restaurant in Dallas and the Mrs. had to take a walking away shot because this is our favorite shot. We have them everywhere and they always seem to be a better idea than they work out to be. It's kinda like going to the mountains. You take all of these awesome pics that are stunning and breathtaking. The prettiest stuff you've ever seen, then you get home and are like, " why did we take all these boring scenery shots?". I digress...

Here the Aunt is blatantly attacking a pygmy goat. A PYGMY goat. Poor , helpless and defenceless. Someone should report this to the SPCA or PETA or something. I mean its a little goat.

Here the Aunt is trying to determine which chicken weighs the most so she can kill it for supper. I mean the brutality is just amazing to me. My kids were here having to witness all this carnage. They will spend years in therapy trying to get over this barbaric incident.

God Bless Sam. He is doing his best to fend off this unwarranted attic. I don't know what could cause this sort of behavior in a person unless all that low oxygen to the brain riding a bicycle all over the mountains of Colorado.

Viscous!

Sunday night at the drive-in

Labor Day weekend usually means but one thing with clan Daniel. We are usually taking the travel trailer down to the in-laws farm in east Texas where we deer hunt and set it up for the season. This year was a little different as we have Bub playing football and Sissy cheer leading. Their games are on Saturdays and they are all at 1:30 in the afternoon so it kinda kills a Saturday. Add that to the fact that we had obligations at church on Sunday and we just decided to stay at home this weekend. Last night the Mrs. suggested that we go to the drive-in movies at a town almost an hour from our home where they have a double feature and they are both kid friendly. That sounded like a good idea so we all piled into the suburban with pillows and blankets and were off. The Mrs. still has a paper to put out holiday weekend or not so she had to work during intermission.
The kids spent their time before the movie and during intermission playing their DS's. Keeps em' happy.

Notice the old car speaker at lower right? Nice for nostalgia sake but now you tune your car stereo in to pick up the audio.
Ain't they cute!

It was a good evening! Brings back lots of memories from my childhood. Nice relaxing weekend!

More updates from the farm

With the last post I let you know what we have been doing with Jake. Are you wondering what Trigger is up to? This is a pic the Mrs. caught one morning a couple of weeks ago. Trigger loves the goats. If we keep Trigger for Jake then we definitely keep the goats for Trigger. How about the chickens? Check this out. Our first egg!
And up to this point our only egg! We found this 3 or 4 days ago and have been religiously checking each day but no luck.

Of course we had to take it in and cook it immediately.
Look at that dark, rich yolk. If we could just get 7 or 8 of these each day we would be in business.

Dad got to try the first bite.

Then it was sisters turn.

And Bub finished it off. Straight from the chickens butt to our table. Wow!

Catching up with... horse stuff.

What's been happening with the horse situation you may be asking. Well, I would like to tell you that we are using both horses regularly and going on long trail rides each week. yea right! It has been a slow process up to now mostly because of a lack of time. I'm no professional horse trainer but I do know one thing, time and consistency are two of the most important elements in the process. We have recently decided to concentrate our efforts on Jake for now. He is doing great and is really close to being where we want him to be. His biggest problem is he is a little lazy.
Fortunately we recently found a great deal on a round pen through Craig's List. It was our 1st experience with purchasing anything through that type of service and we were very pleased.

We have enjoyed all the time (not enough) that we get to spend on our mini-farm.

I think the kids are enjoying as well.

What a month!

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted anything. Too long. The thing that drives me crazy about blogs I follow are when they are not updated regularly. For this I am sorry. We have been incredibly busy here in the Pearl this last month. We have been getting ready for school, having a whole slew of visitors, cheer camps, football practice and a ton of other things that have kept me away from Life in the Pearl. I have also been very busy at work this last month which has been really stressful but I guess is better than the alternative. I have a huge mess of pics that I will slowly add to the site to catch all up in our crazy lives. The Mrs. keeps clothes of all sizes to pass down to each child and we have been very blessed to get a lot of hand-me-downs from our friends at church. Our kids still don't mind the hand-me-down so we make sure to pass on to others so that we can continue to get those blessings. We know that the day will come when they will baulk but not yet. Bub is trying on a pair of sweats that the Mrs. and I thought were so cute on him some years ago but he has since outgrown. He was a good sport about it and modeled for us so we could re-live his younger days. The Mrs. and the kids spent 2 or 3 days making sure everyone had all they needed for a new year at school.
The night before the 1st day of school the girls spent about 19 hours primping and preparing for the big day. Bub spent about 2 minutes. Above is a pic of my babies after their showers. Being Sisters 1st day of kindergarten Sissy needed to be there for extra help.

Here is the Mrs and sister escorting sissy to 3rd grade. Look at Sisters face. I think she was a bit nervous at this point. We had already dropped off Bub and she was getting closer. Sissy thinks she's so cool in the hat!

Here are the three whipper-snappers all spit and polished for the 1st day.My girls are beautiful! Bub's alright too I suppose.
Still smiling but quickly tiring of the ump-teenth picture.

Bub throwing (literally) his stuff in his locker. He is in the Intermediate school now. He's Big-Time!

Sissy at her locker. 4Th year at this school it's all old-hat for her.

Here is our baby at her desk. We walked in and she sat down and she was done with us. Totally ignored us. When she would look at us it was as if to say, "OK, go away now". Man, you would think she would be a little sad.
She did give the Mrs. one of her famous face holding kisses before she threw us out of her class. I think she missed us a little bit. The Mrs. and me left school that day with a few tears...then we went home and had a cup of coffee. In peace and quiet!
