One of the best "surprises" we had when we moved to the Pearl was how old school Halloween was done. We stumbled into town that first year not expecting much only to be transported back in time to our own childhood years of loads of kids and parents crawling through the streets with seemingly every house in town handing out candy. Halloween is a big deal here. So the kids dressed up once again for the yearly ritual of running wild through the streets of town begging for food like poor little orphans. I'm so proud.
I wanted to take a pic of what the crowds are like but i don't think this does it justice. The thing that the Mrs. and I love about this is that we get to visit with all of our friends (while providing proper parental supervision of course) that we run into on the streets. I mean, take the above picture; we literally know everyone in this picture. It's amazing. The guy in the white shirt, he plays bass at our church every Sunday morning. The scuzzy looking guy next to the truck is Bub's Sunday school teacher. (just kidding about the scuzzy part- he's not that scuzzy) It's a great time.

Now, this last weekend Sissy went to her first livestock show as a contestant. Bub was supposed to be there as well but his football team has made the playoffs so he (and I) was at a game. Sissy showed not only her steer but Bub's as well.
If you've never been to a livestock show as a competitor, you wouldn't know that there is lots of time for sitting on show boxes eating hamburgers.
